Myanmar Culture & Beach

Ngapali (pronounced Napally) is Myanmar’s premier beach destination on the Bay of Bengal coast in Rakhine State. Its known for an idyllic stretch of white sand and palm tree-lined coast, lined with a number of resorts. The nearby traditional fishing villages including Jate Taw (Gyeik Taw) offer boat tours to nearby islands. Activities include kayaking, snorkelling or scuba diving. Overlooking the beach is a large hilltop Buddha, which can be reached by bike or motorcycle.

In the surrounds is the town of Thandwe with a number of pagodas and a busy market with small restaurants serving catch of the day. Surfing is possible during the monsoon season, which is the quietest time of year in Ngapali. This private, luxurious tour features the dynamic city of Yangon, the fascinating ruins of Bagan, the monasteries and temples of Mandalay, floating villages in Inle Lake, and pristine Ngapali Beach.

(13 Days - Departs Daily on a Private Basis)
Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay, Inle Lake, Ngapali Beach

Begin in Yangon, the capital city. With your private guide and driver, tour cultural highlights such as the glittering Shwe Dagon Pagoda. Perched on a hill like a gold beacon, huge and bell-shaped it dominates the city and the surrounding countryside. Also, visit Bogyoke (Scott) Market, which has a vast selection of traditional Burmese handicrafts.

Next, fly to awe-inspiring Bagan, where thousands of pagodas and temples nestle within an eight-mile curve of the Irrawaddy River. One day take an optional private boat on the Irrawaddy River to enjoy views of pagodas and daily life, ride in a horse-drawn carriage among the temples of Bagan at sunset or take a private excursion to Mount Popa, an extinct volcano that’s considered the home of Burma’s most powerful nats (animist spirits).

Continue to fabled Mandalay. For most Burmese Mandalay, along with the ancient capitals of Amarapura, Sagaing, Ava, and classical Bagan, is the cultural and religious heart of Myanmar.  With your export guide explore the shrines and temples that stud this land in amazing numbers. One day, take a private excursion to Sagaing to see some of its hundreds of pagodas and active monasteries, and also visit a nearby pottery village.

Next, visit the massive fresh water Inle Lake, home of the Intha people. Rimmed with high hills, stilted villages, it’s known for leg-rowing Intha people. Relax in the peaceful place and while away your days canoeing, cycling and walking through the lush countryside. Continue to Ngapali Beach. Stay at a luxury resort and dine on fresh seafood, browse local art, explore by bicycle, or perhaps snorkel off nearby islands. Return to Yangon for overnight and connect with your onward flight.

Getting There Myanmar has two international airports: In the capital Yangon and at Mandalay. Due to the lack of travel services in Myanmar most airlines fly to Yangon via Bangkok, Kaula Lumpur or Singapore.  Also, there are flights connecting Chiang Mai (in Thailand) to Yangon and Mandalay. It is best to check prices for flights to Bangkok and from there to Yangon return as buying two tickets can be cheaper. We suggest that you book in advance to get the best rates for flights.

When to go The best time to visit Myanmar is between October and April when the weather is dry and not so hot. At this time the warm and sunny days are ideal for sightseeing throughout the country. The temperatures start to rise in March and May to September is best avoided as this is the rainy season when sightseeing can become difficult.
