India Golden Triangle

India's golden triangle is a tourist circuit which connects the national capital Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. The Golden Triangle is so called because of the triangular shape formed by the locations of New Delhi, Agra and Rajasthan on a map. This triangle has been dubbed "golden" for the extraordinary wealth of cultural and historical splendour on offer in each of the three cities. The Golden Triangle circuit is a classic introduction to India for first time travellers or those who are short of time while in India.

The tour usually starts in Delhi, capital of India. The "Old" Delhi, founded in the 17th century by the Moghuls, is dominated by the immense Jama Masjid (Great Mosque) and Red Fort. In the South, New Delhi has impressive colonial style architecture designed by Edwin Lutyens in the 1920s. Agra is full of monumental splendours. It boasts a stupendous Moghul fort in the city centre and the ethereally beautiful Taj Mahal. Jaipur, capital of Rajasthan, is home to some of Asia's best bazaars, forts and palaces.

And, visit its historical and fascinating cities of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.

Getting There All major international airlines fly to India’s main airports: Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. Airports tend to be on the outskirts of cities. Pre-paid taxi services and auto-rickshaws are stationed outside the terminus to get you into the city.

When to go The best time to travel to India is between September and March. Summer starts in April and by June, it becomes very hot. By July there is the south-west monsoon, which brings heavy rains to the west coast. September is a generally a clear month though later, between October and December there may be a reverse pattern called the north-east monsoon that appears in the Bay of Bengal, bringing rains to the east coast. The best time for trekking in the Indian Himalaya is between April and November but it varies from region to region and the altitude you are planning to reach.
